Approved Driving Instructor.

I started my own business, as an Approved Driving Instructor. Taking the City & Guilds 730 Teaching Certificate (AEB) in 1989.In 1989, I qualified and registered as one of only a limited number of RAC Instructors. Then moving on in 1989, taking a course to teach and become a Skid Pan training instructor which also took in teaching defensive driving techniques.

With a few years of driving experience behind me, the task was to test myself once again. So, in 1989 I entered Business Driver of the Year of Great Britain; only just missing the title. In 1992, I returned to further educational college in Leeds to take the Diploma in Driving Instruction (AEB) which included five modules and passing all five exams.
In 1994, I took my check test to keep my name on the Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) register. I achieved Top Grade 6 with 100% pass mark, as an Instructor with the Driving Standards Agency (DSA).

1998 was the year I achieved a RoSPA Gold pass. Having taken this exam on a regular 3 year period; in 1998, I decided to take the Diamond Advanced Driving Test, passing first time.

Well, time was flying by and I was having fun. I took my RoSPA test again in 2002 and kept my Gold grade.

In 2003, this was the year the DSA announced the fleet registration for fleet trainers (Fleet training badge). As I was teaching company drivers, it was essential I joined the registration as a Fleet trainer.

The next challenge came in 2003, when I decided to join the DSA (Driving Standards Agency) as a Driving Examiner, working in Leeds at local test centre's, conducting driving tests. After working for a while, I needed more of a challenge; I decided to become a Diamond Advanced Examiner in 2004 taking the course and examinations with the Driving Instructors Association (DIA).

I also became a Diamond Advanced Instructor in the same year giving me the chance not just to test ADIs but also help them to achieve a higher standard of driving; taking them to the next level. In 2004 I went on a tutor CPD/fleet course with the ADI Federation, passing first time.

It was time to take my three yearly RoSPA test in 2005 and again achieving a RoSPA Gold pass. In 2005, I was pleased to be asked to head the CPD/ fleet courses for The ADI Federation. Not only training qualified ADI's but also helping them to qualify as Fleet trainers onto the DSA register. In recognition of all the experience I gained over the years, I was awarded a RoSPA BTEC Diploma in 2005

In the spare time I had, while still keeping a full time job as a DSA Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) and bringing up a family, I joined and became member of various professional bodies in the Industry. This included writing a monthly magazine on behalf of the Leeds Driving Instructors Association and being the recruitment officer of the Motor School Association of Great Britain, North East region.
